During the summer break, I went on a family trip to New York City and saw a huge pile of trash on the streets like the one shown in the picture above. The shock of looking at the amount of trash on the streets prompted me to research more about the situation of trash piles in this city.

It has been reported that Urban Designers, politicians and workers all agree that the way the city generates and recycles trash is simply inefficient. For instance, in other countries like South Korea, people use trash sorting bins in order to achieve efficiency of how garbage is collected. However, Manhattan places large containers for recycleable garbage on the street.

In order to combat this issue, the city has announced a 'clean curb' plan where they focused on cleaning the most busy area of NYC - Times Square. This plan also added a new policy of limiting the window in which people can throw out their trash at night. Through these measures, the city aims to tackle its trash challenge head-on and enhance the cleanliness and allure of its public spaces.
