Reportedly, the amount of waste in Han river park skyrocketed from 3806 tons in 2015 to 4832 tons in the recent years. Due to the fact that we are slowly coming towards the end of the COVID pandemic now, outdoor concerts and events are slowly returning in South Korea. Along with this, there have been re-openings of what Koreans call "야시장" night markets in Han river park.
Because these night markets are held with various different camp food trucks, after people eat their food, they tend to dispose of their waste in the park. Recognizing this issue, the government decided to take an initiative.
The government has decided that they would make it compulsory for stores and camping sites to put their names on all garbage bins in order to make sure that they can track the origin of where the trash came from.
The decision to enforce this regulation reflects the government's commitment to tackle the worsening problem of increase in waste in Han river park and preserve the sustainable integrity of the area. Furthermore, this decision aligns with the UN sustainable development goal of life on land and sustainable cities & communities. It's really great news that our government is taking action to combat land waste.
